It’s no secret that what you put into your body on a daily basis has a direct effect on your overall health.   • Green Tea Speeds Up Metabolism – This is not just one of those gaudy claims that you see with a lot of foods and drinks, as this one has been shown in different studies. Drinking 2-3 cups of green tea per day can, on average, boost your metabolism by about 4% according to some sources. That’s a nice little boost that can make your workouts even more effective.
  • Reduced Cancer Risk – Green tea contains a number of different powerful antioxidants, and it is believed that the risk of certain types of cancer are reduced by this wonderful drink. Specifically, it is breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and prostate cancer that green tea is most effective at battling. It should be noted, though, that adding milk to your green tea may according to some reduce the number of antioxidants entering your body.
  • Reduced Risk of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s – Cognitive function is something that becomes a major issue as you get older, with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s a potential health threat for older folks. Green tea has proven to be effective in reducing the risk of getting either, so it’s well worth adding a few cups to your daily diet if either of these run in your family.
  • Reduced Risk of Type II Diabetes – One of the health benefits of green tea is that it is excellent at reducing blood sugar levels in the short term. That is excellent news for people at risk of type II diabetes, and the news gets even better thanks to a study out of Japan that showed individuals who regularly drank green tea had a 42% lower chance of ending up with type II diabetes than those who did not drink it.
  • Reduced Risk of Cardiovascular Disease – Heart disease and stroke are among the leaders in cause of death all over the world, and it appears as though green tea can help reduce the risks of both. Those aforementioned antioxidants once again come into play, as do the LDL cholesterol and triglycerides ingredients in green tea. Research has shown that risks can be reduced by as much as 31% by simply drinking green tea on a daily basis.

Those are just a few of the health benefits of green tea, but as we mentioned at the start of this piece, there are many more besides.
